Coaches Corner: Anthony Leckie, Midway Ahead of Cosby Playoff Game

Coaches Corner continues with Midway head coach Anthony Leckie, ahead of the Green Wave's trip to Cosby on Friday night, November 6, in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.

Midway leads the postseason series against Cosby 3-0, and ended Cosby's season 27-13 in the first round last year. Leckie said he hopes it turns out the same way this time, but called Cosby 'really good' and 'pretty balanced.'

The Green Wave started 1-4, then won five straight to reach the playoffs at 6-4. Leckie pointed to a brutal region stretch — Greenback and Rockwood back-to-back, teams he said are almost twice Midway's size — and said playing teams their own size after that helped the group turn it around.

On Cosby's senior duo, quarterback Spencer Moore and running back David Baker, Leckie asked the question every opposing coach has to answer: how do you stop one without the other beating you? His answer: it comes down to who tackles better and who blocks better.

On his senior leadership, Leckie said he has a really good group of kids, plus a heavy junior class, and a regimented group that goes to work.

Midway travels to Cosby on Friday, November 6. Cosby is 9-1, the Region 1 champion and No. 1 seed.
