Farragut Football Coach Geoff Courtney Resigns After Three Seasons

Farragut High School head football coach Geoff Courtney announced his resignation on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, sharing the news in a social media post just four days after the 2026 TSSAA football regular season came to an end.

Courtney, a Farragut graduate, was promoted to head coach in the spring of 2024 after his father, longtime Admirals coach Eddie Courtney, retired. He had previously spent 15 years as an assistant on the Farragut staff, including seven seasons as the team's offensive coordinator.

In three seasons under Courtney, Farragut compiled an 8-24 record. The Admirals reached the TSSAA Class 6A playoffs in 2024 and 2025, but finished the 2026 campaign at 1-9.

Courtney said the decision had been on his mind for the past few weeks. He met with the team's senior players on November 2, finalized his choice over the weekend, and plans to take the rest of the semester to consider his next options.

Separately, several Farragut football players were involved in a hazing incident reported to the school on November 2, following an incident on October 30. The Knox County Sheriff's Office confirmed it is investigating, and the students involved face potential misdemeanor charges of assault and harassment for bullying. All students involved are minors, and no identifying information has been released. Knox County Schools will determine any school suspensions. It has not been established whether the resignation and the investigation are connected.
